Note to Self

Terms of Use

Last updated · 31 October 2026

Effective 31 October 2026

These terms cover your use of Note to Self, an iPhone app made by Saleh Kayyali (“I”, “me”). They apply alongside Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”) and the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, which govern every app obtained from the App Store. Where these terms and the Standard EULA differ, the Standard EULA prevails. By using the app you accept these terms.

1. Licence

You may use Note to Self on any Apple device you own or control, as allowed by the App Store’s Usage Rules, including Family Sharing where Apple offers it. You may not copy, modify, redistribute, sell or reverse-engineer the app, except where the law allows it regardless of these terms. The app is licensed to you, not sold.

2. Your notes

Everything you write, record or share into the app (“your notes”) belongs to you. I do not receive, store or have any right to it. Your notes are kept on your iPhone; the app has no account and no sync service. They are included in your iPhone’s own backups if you have those turned on, under your agreement with Apple.

You are responsible for keeping copies of anything that matters to you. The app lets you export a full backup at any time (Settings → Backup). I cannot recover notes that are deleted, lost with a device, or lost because a backup was not made, since I never hold a copy.

3. Send to Self

The Send to Self share extension copies what you choose to share (links, text, audio) from other apps into Note to Self on the same iPhone. Make sure you have the right to keep what you share; content from other apps and websites remains subject to its owners’ terms.

4. Apple Intelligence and generated text

Titles, tags, answers in Find and summaries are produced by Apple’s language models, on your iPhone or, if you turn on the option in Settings, through Apple’s Private Cloud Compute. These features need a supported iPhone with Apple Intelligence turned on, and they are subject to Apple’s own terms and availability; Apple may change, limit or withdraw them.

Generated text can be incomplete or wrong, and may misread or leave out what a note says. Transcriptions of voice notes can contain errors. Check anything important against the original note or recording before relying on it, and do not use these features as the sole basis for medical, legal, financial or other consequential decisions.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the app, or its access to Apple’s models, to break the law, to infringe others’ rights, to produce content that is harmful, abusive or exploitative, or to get around the safety measures built into Apple’s models. Apple’s acceptable use requirements for its models apply to how the app uses them.

6. Link previews

When you save a link, the app fetches the linked page to show its title and image. The page’s owner controls that content. I am not responsible for third-party websites, their content or their availability.

7. Intellectual property

The app, its name, design, icon and code belong to me. Open-source components are used under their own licences, listed in the app’s About screen.

8. Price and purchases

The app’s price, if any, is shown on the App Store. Any payment is taken and handled by Apple under the Apple Media Services Terms, including refunds, which are requested from Apple.

9. Warranty

The app is provided as it is, and features may change between versions. To the extent the law allows, I give no warranty beyond those the law implies and does not let me exclude. If you are a consumer in the United Kingdom, you have statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 in relation to digital content, and nothing in these terms affects them; consumers elsewhere keep their equivalent rights.

10. Liability

I am not liable for losses that were not foreseeable, for loss of notes or data you did not back up, or for business losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Subject to that, my total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the app, or £50 if that is greater; this matches the cap in the Standard EULA.

11. Ending these terms

You may stop using the app at any time by deleting it; doing so removes your notes from the iPhone unless you have exported a backup. These terms end automatically if you break them.

12. Changes

I may update these terms when the app changes. The current version is always at this address, with its effective date. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
